Badaguan is the most distinctive district in Qingdao: eight streets named after historic mountain passes, laid across a wooded headland and lined with villas built between roughly 1900 and 1930 in German, Russian, Danish, Japanese and other European styles. It is often described as an exhibition of world architecture. For a Western visitor it is the easiest place in China to feel briefly at home โ red-tiled roofs, stone-paved slopes, deep tree shade and the sea at the end of most streets. The whole district is free to walk. Only a handful of individual houses charge to go inside.

2Tickets
There is no district ticket. Every street, every villa exterior and the beach at the southern edge are free at any hour. What costs money is entering specific buildings: the Flower Stone House carries a token fee that recent listings put at about ยฅ5, while the Princess House, Butterfly House and the Spanish-style pavilion each charge roughly a dozen yuan, with a combined ticket usually better value. Prices for these small houses change; check the board at each door.

3Getting There
Badaguan sits on the southern seafront between the old town and the eastern beaches. Metro Line 3 gets you to the edge; inside, everything is on foot.

About 15 minutes along the coast road.
The streets are quiet and mostly flat โ the most pleasant way to link Badaguan with Taipingjiao.
Walkable from Little Fish Hill and No.1 Beach๏ผIf you are already on the old-town coastal walk, continuing east on foot into Badaguan is a natural extension.

There is no fixed circuit here, and trying to 'complete' all eight streets misses the point. Pick two or three and walk them slowly.

Eat before or after, not during๏ผThere is very little food inside Badaguan itself. Plan a meal at Taipingjiao or Zhanshan at either end of the walk.

6Tips & Pitfalls
- Weekday mornings are dramatically quieter than weekends โ in season the district fills with wedding-photography shoots.
- Some lawns and compounds are private residences. Follow the signs and do not walk in for a photo.
- Ginkgo weekends in late October are the busiest days of the year here. Come on a weekday or come early.
- Wear real shoes โ the streets are stone-paved and the district is built on a slope.

Is the Flower Stone House worth entering?
For a token fee it is the best-value paid view in the district โ you climb to a sea-and-red-roof panorama. If you only have time for one interior here, make it this one.
